Custom Knee Replacements make all the difference.

Patients’ knee anatomy come in all different shapes and sizes. Some patients’ knees are tall in the anterior to posterior dimension. Some patients’ knees are wide in the medial to lateral dimension. Dr. Kurtz has been doing custom knee replacements since 2011. He has done over 1700 custom knees which means he has implanted 1700 different shapes and sizes of knee implants.

Sizes and Shapes Matter.

After a clinical evaluation from Dr. Kurtz, patient will often get a CT scan of their arthritic knee. From that CT scan, Conformis will construct a digital model of that patient’s knee. From that digital model, Conformis creates a patient specific femoral and tibial implant as well as a patient specific polyethylene articular insert. Conformis also uses 3D printing to create the patient specific tools that Dr. Kurtz uses to perform the surgery.

Dr. Kurtz is a member of the Conformis Surgical Advisor Board for the past 8 years. He has done extensive research and has multiple publications on custom knee replacements.
