Partial Knee Replacements

Partial knee replacements (a.k.a. Unicompartmental Knee Replacements) can replace the damaged portion of the knee while preserving the undamaged portion of the knee.

The Pros:

A partial knee replacement will typically feel more like a normal knee because the patient keeps their ACL and their undamaged cartilage in the remaining knee compartments which allows the knee move more naturally.

The Cons:

The remaining cartilage may wear out over 10-20 years and need to be replaced down the road.

The patient and surgeon need to be confident that the patient’s pain is only coming from the compartment of the knee that is going to be replaced.
